Apache ActiveMQ is a popular and powerful open source messaging and Integration Patterns server. It is used as the JMS broker within the DCT software architecture.

It is necessary to connect to an instance of ActiveMQ broker for launching any of the LOUIs. If one is within the Lowell's network or has VPN access to Lowell's network, the ideal server to use is jumar.lowell.edu.

Under no circumstances should the broker at joe.lowell.edu be used for testing purposes.

If one cannot reach the broker on jumar.lowell.edu, it would be necessary to have a local instance of ActiveMQ server. The application is written in java so it can be run under most modern operating systems. For installation procedure, please refer to Getting Started page on the ActiveMQ web site. We are currently running version 5.8.0 at DCT so that will be a good one to use for local installation.
