Usually, a shortcut link to /mimir/data resides on the saturn desktop, with a name like 'data' and looking like a directory/folder.

If it is missing, then it needs to be replaced prior to copying data to the Mimir transfer (XFER) disk.

  1. On Saturn, click the desktop background to get the top title line to say "Finder File Edit View Go Window Help"
  2. Click the "Go" item and select "Connect to Server"
  3. In the pop-up window that appears, look to see if there is already an option to select /mimir/data. If so, select it and click the "Connect" button at bottom right in this pop-up window.
  4. If /mimir/data does not appear in the list, then enter it in the "Server" text box as "nfs://mimir.lowell.edu/mimir/data" (without the quotes) and click "Connect"
  5. If either (3) or (4) works, great! You are in business.
  6. If neither works, then something is wrong with the nfs server on the mimir computer
    1. log into mimir
    2. su to root (not a general user ability - this is for DPC or BU/AS/IT only)
    3. relaunch the nfs server:  "/etc/init.d/nfs.server start"
    4. return to saturn and step 1 above
