- After Any Large Storm With Blowing Snow, Especially An Ice Storm,
One Should Use Caution Moving The Telescope For The First Time.
The Hand Paddle Should Be Used In The Guide Or Set Mode( Never The Slew
Mode)To See If The R.A. Will Move Properly. Ice Will Sometimes Form On The
Inside Of The Dome Over The R.A. Worm Gear Box And As Melting Occurs, Fill
The R.A. Worm Box With Water. The Water Will Freeze And Lock Up The R.A
Axis.
- The Rectangular Heater Attached To The R.A.Gear Box Should Be Plugged In To
Prevent A Lock Up Condition. Note: Use An Extension Cord To Plug In The
Heater . The 110V Receptacle Under The Worm Turns Off When The Telescope
Power Is Turned Off At The Console.
- Dome Shutter Problems Will Also Occur During Storm Conditions.
- If One Must Observe Right After A storm, One Should Go Out Early( Not Just
A Couple Of Hours Early)To Verify That The Telescope Can Be Moved And There
Is Not Too Much Ice And Snow On The Dome To Risk A Stuck Shutter.
